Intensive individual support under section 35 SGB VIII, called “intensive social-educational individual support” in the wording of the act, is for young people facing particular challenges who need intensive support tailored to them. Miro Sozialdienste GmbH delivers this service on an outpatient basis in Leverkusen, Cologne and the Rhein-Berg district. Scope, frequency and focus depend on the individual young person's situation.

Who the support is for
The service addresses young people for whom other forms of support are not sufficient and who need closer, individually tailored guidance. It is built on relationship work and needs time; it is established step by step.
Process and cooperation
The support is initiated through the responsible youth welfare office. Goals, scope and review are agreed in the assistance planning procedure under section 36 SGB VIII. We document the process, take part in assistance planning meetings and inform everyone involved when needs change.

Intensive social educational individual support (ISE) is for young people who need particularly close and individually tailored support. It may be suitable if other support does not sufficiently meet the need. The focus is on stabilising everyday life, social integration and developing an independent, self-responsible way of living.
What distinguishes intensive individual support from an educational mentor?
Both forms of support work with the individual young person. Intensive individual support is intended for situations with a particularly high and complex need for support. Scope, frequency of contact and approach are therefore tailored closely to the young person. The youth welfare office decides together with those involved in the assistance planning process which support is appropriate.
How is intensive individual support applied for?
Access is through the responsible youth welfare office. Legal guardians describe the situation there; the young person is involved in consultation and planning. For young adults, support may be considered under section 41 SGB VIII. Miro Sozialdienste also accepts case referrals from youth welfare offices for outpatient support.
Who pays for intensive outpatient individual support?
If the youth welfare office approves the support in outpatient form, it covers the costs of the agreed educational care. No contribution is charged for this outpatient support. Different cost rules may apply to support involving accommodation; these must be clarified separately with the youth welfare office.
Must a young person move into a facility for individual support?
Miro Sozialdienste provides this service on an outpatient basis. The support connects with the young person's living situation and does not include accommodation provided by Miro. Which housing and support arrangement is appropriate overall is clarified separately with the youth welfare office.
How intensive is the support, and is care available around the clock?
Intensive means that the support is closely based on individual need. It does not automatically mean round-the-clock care. At Miro Sozialdienste, appointments, support in stressful situations and availability are based on the agreed scope of support. If needs change, the support is reviewed with the youth welfare office.
