Follow-up support

Follow-up support under section 41a SGB VIII follows on from support that has ended. It safeguards the results achieved so far and helps young people stabilise their situation over the longer term. Miro Sozialdienste GmbH provides follow-up support on an outpatient basis in Leverkusen, Cologne and the Rhein-Berg district.

What follow-up support covers

  • Safeguarding the results of the preceding support
  • Help with housing, training, employment and dealings with public authorities
  • Availability within the agreed support hours
  • Referral to further services if additional needs arise

The scope normally decreases over time. The aim is that the young person manages everyday life independently.

Who follow-up support is for

Follow-up support is for young people whose support has ended and who still need occasional guidance. Often this concerns the period immediately after support for young adults under section 41 SGB VIII comes to an end.

Process and cooperation

Follow-up support is initiated through the responsible youth welfare office and agreed in assistance planning under section 36 SGB VIII. We document the process and agree with the young person and the youth welfare office when the support can end.

Frequently asked questions

Who is follow-up support under section 41a SGB VIII intended for?

Follow-up support is for young adults after support under section 41 SGB VIII has ended. It provides assistance if questions or difficulties still arise in independent everyday life. It is intended to safeguard what has already been achieved and ease the transition without the previous intensive support.

How is follow-up support arranged?

Raise follow-up support, if possible, before your current support ends during the assistance planning meeting. Its period and scope should be recorded in the assistance plan documenting the end of support under section 41 SGB VIII. If the support has already ended, you can still contact the responsible youth welfare office.

Is follow-up support subject to a charge for young adults?

No personal financial contribution is required for follow-up support under section 41a SGB VIII. If Miro Sozialdienste is commissioned to provide support, the necessary scope and funding are agreed with the responsible youth welfare office. This does not constitute a general commitment to cover other expenses, such as rent or living costs.

What does follow-up support help with after youth welfare ends?

Miro Sozialdienste provides guidance on housing, training, work and contacts with authorities. It can also include organising pending tasks or referral to other suitable services. Support focuses on the agreed topics and takes place within the agreed support hours.

How long can I receive follow-up support?

The law refers to an appropriate period and necessary scope, but does not set a uniform number of months. Both depend on your situation and are agreed with, and regularly reviewed by, the youth welfare office. The youth welfare office should also contact you on its own initiative at regular intervals.

What happens if follow-up support is no longer enough?

Tell the youth welfare office about an increased need for support early. Together, you will assess which support is now appropriate. If the requirements of section 41 SGB VIII are met, support for young adults may also be granted again; an earlier end to support does not generally rule out renewed support.

Is a support arrangement coming to an end and stability needs to be safeguarded? Contact us early so the transition can be arranged without a gap.
